Background

The purpose of the electronic evidence service is to ensure the reliability of electronic signatures over time. Specifically, it offers a service for:

  • maintain evidence of the validity of electronic signatures;
  • guarantee the chain of trust by incorporating a signature or archive seal at the level of the information package, to which sealing mechanisms are applied to facilitate its preservation and
  • finally, to file all this evidence in the digital repository, guaranteeing its protection against possible alterations and ensuring the exact date on which the signature was kept.

Specifically, it is responsible for completing the original electronic signatures or evidence associated with the electronic documents that form part of the information packages by completing them in the archive mode (AdES-A), in order to help preserve their legal validity and probative value. In addition, upon completion of the information packet entry, the platform incorporates an information packet-level archive seal to ensure that documents, original signatures, and their metadata are authentic and complete. from the time of receipt and transfer validation.

Operation

When the archiver wants to enter the transfer information packets (PIT) for the iARXIU website, a pop-up appears with two options:

  • With preservation
  • No preservation

The purpose of this pop-up is to indicate how electronically signed documents should be handled, if any, before proceeding with their entry on the platform.

Processing of signed documents when chosen "without preservation"

In the case of indicating the option "without preservation" the platform performs the following actions:

  • First of all, proceed to the validation of the signatures:
    • if it is valid and in advanced format, it is completed in file mode and the corresponding metadata is extracted.
    • if it is valid but not in an advanced format, only the metadata is extracted.
    • if this is not automatically validated (for example, because the certificate of the signatory and / or the date and time stamping authority is not valid at the time of validation) the system will trace the action history of the PIA of the signature / document identifier invalid plus the detail returned by the AOC Consortium validation platform. Although not valid, the platform accepts your entry.
  • And at the end of the entry incorporates a signature or seal of file at the level of the information package.

Treatment of signed documents when chosen "with preservation"

In the case of indicating the "with preservation" option, the platform performs the following actions:

  • First of all, proceed to the validation of the signatures
    • if it is valid and in advanced format, it is completed in file mode and metadata is extracted.
    • If it is valid but not in an advanced format, only the metadata is extracted.
    • In this case, if the platform detects any signature that cannot be validated automatically, the transfer will be rejected.
  • And at the end of the entry incorporates a signature or seal of file at the level of the information package.

The following diagram explains how electronic signatures are validated and treated in the process of entering the iARXIU platform:
